Seno Gumira Ajidarma was an editor with the weekly news magazine Jakarta Jakarta at the time of the Dili massacre in East Timor. He and two colleagues were called in after they gave what they believed to be an accurate and unbiased report of events and told that they were to be transferred to non-news magazines. For two years Seno was a non-person in terms of his job, and was only reinstated as editor of Jakarta Jakarta when it recently became an entertainment magazine. He used the time to write these stories. His latest work in nglish is Jazz, , Perfume & the Incident (Lontar, 2002).
