Lawrence was born in 1885 in England. His first novel,
The White Peacock, was published in 1911.
Lawrence and his wife, Frieda, came to Australia in 1922,
stayed in Perth for two weeks, then sailed to Sydney and
rented a holiday house, Wyewurk, in the coastal resort
of Thirroul. During their ten-week stay there, Lawrence
wrote all but the last chapter of Kangaroo.
His other Australian novel is The Boy in the Bush.
Lawrence's other major works are Sons and Lovers, The
Rainbow, Lady Chatterley's Lover, and Women in Love. He
died in 1930. |
